The Learning Suite Teachers & Staff
The Learning Suite staff is made up of caring, innovative, highly qualified teachers and specialists with advanced degrees and certifications in their chosen fields of study. All have passed criminal history record processing and child abuse clearance checks and possess First Aid and Child CPR certification.
MYANI LAWSON - DIRECTOR
Ms. Lawson graduated from Lincoln University, cum laude, with a B.A. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. She also holds a M.Ed. in Reading Education from Howard University. Ms. Lawson has over a decade of experience in the field of education. She has held the positions of academic enrichment program director, elementary classroom teacher, elementary instructional coach, adult education instructor, university adjunct instructor, educational consultant, and curriculum coordinator. Ms. Lawson is a passionate and dedicated educator whose varied background and hands-on approach give The NDLearning Suite it competitive edge.
ANDREA GUNDEN - MUSIC INSTRUCTOR
Ms. Gunden received a Bachelor of Music Education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and is completing a Master of Music Education at Teachers College Columbia University. She has been active as a flautist, vocalist, dancer, and music educator in Jersey City, Hoboken, and New York City since 2005. She has performed as a soloist and in ensemble in a wide variety of venues, from rest homes and jazz clubs to the Lincoln Center and the United Nations. In addition to teaching classes at The Learning Suite, Ms. Gunden is the director and founder of A Sound Start, a Jersey City-based early childhood music center. A strong believer in community-building through the arts, Ms. Gunden frequently appears as a guest performer and clinician at local schools, libraries, and community events.
IMARA MOORE - MULTIMEDIA INSTRUCTOR
Ms. Moore received her Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Arts from Temple University. She also holds a Master of Arts in Media Studies from The New School as well as a Master of Professional Studies in Digital Photography from the School of Visual Arts. In addition to teaching classes at The Learning Suite, currently Ms. Moore works as Assistant to the Chair of the Computer Arts Department at the School of Visual Arts; teaches digital photography to schoolchildren; and pursues independent commissions in both photography and film/video. Ms. Moore is an avid filmmaker who is dedicated to teaching others the benefit of using visual art to communicate.
ROSANNA ABREU - SPANISH INSTRUCTOR
Mrs. Abreu holds a B.A. in Psychology and an M.A. in Family Therapy from Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), Dominican Republic (Autonomous University of Santo Domingo). She studied Montessori Preschool Education at the Montessori Training Center of Santo Domingo, which is praised by the American Montessori Society (AMS). Mrs. Abreu operated her own Montessori schools in the Dominican Republic and acted as a consultant on Montessori education prior to moving to the United States. Mrs. Abreu has experience in the fields of preschool pedagogy and special education. In addition to teaching classes at The Learning Suite, Mrs. Abreu is also a Spanish teacher for private institutions throughout the state of New Jersey.
